Lead Housekeeper
Hourly, full-time position
Job Summary:
The Lead Housekeeper is responsible for overseeing the daily cleaning and maintenance operations of the school to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role includes supervising housekeeping staff as well as cleaning, coordinating schedules, maintaining inventory, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise, coordinate, and help the activities of housekeeping staff.
- Assign daily cleaning tasks and ensure completion to high standards.
- Inspect school facilities to ensure cleanliness.
- Train new housekeeping staff and provide ongoing guidance.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment; suggest orders as needed to Manager as well as administering supplies to closets and staff.
- Ensure compliance with school policies and health/safety regulations.
- Respond to urgent cleaning or maintenance requests promptly.
- Collaborate with school administration on special cleaning projects or events.
- Maintain records of cleaning schedules, inspections, and supply usage.
- Cover cleaning for staff when out for vacation or sick days, if a scheduling conflict occurs the lead house keeper will be required to cover.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in custodial or housekeeping work, preferably in a school or institutional setting.
- Prior supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed.
Work Environment:
- Indoor and outdoor school environments.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- May require standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods.
Additional Information
- Work Environment: School environment. Regular interaction with staff and students.
- Reporting Structure: Facilities Manager/ Housekeeping Manager.
- Hourly rate: $23
- Hours of work: 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., as needed nights and weekends.
