Personal Finance Now a Graduation Requirement

A new requirement has been added to the curriculum and will go into effect for the 2020-2021 school year. Students, starting with the Class of 2023, will be required to take one semester of Personal Finance as a sophomore, junior, or senior. The effort to mandate a standalone personal finance course was spearheaded by business teacher Julius Prezelski, who had been teaching the class as an elective. With the change, Mount Saint Joseph now meets the Next Gen Personal Finance (NGPF) Gold Standard Challenge, which grants schools $10,000 for executing a plan that ensures all students are enrolled in a personal finance course before graduating. Mount Saint Joseph was the first school to complete the challenge.
