Football Wins MIAA Championship

Winning their first outright championship since 1949, the Gaels defeated McDonogh 17-10 on Saturday, November 16, in front of an estimated 1,500 people. The Gaels started their scoring on defense after linebacker Marlowe Wax caused a fumble and linebacker Brandon Fique recovered it in the endzone. Scott Martin added a 34-yard field goal to put the Gaels up 10-7 at halftime.

After an interception by Jordan Oliver in the third quarter, Mount Saint Joseph put together a 65-yard drive in seven plays, and running back Marlowe Wax dove over the goal line to score the touchdown and put the Gaels up for good. McDonogh would add a field goal to make it 17-10, but the Gaels stopped the Eagles on fourth down with 1:49 left to play to seal the victory.

The Gaels are now ranked number 10 in the East by USA Today and number 20 nationally by MaxPreps.com.
