Dear Mount Saint Joseph Community,
I am excited to announce the hiring of Mr. Thomas M. Sweeney as our new Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), effective August 4, 2025. Tom has more than 30 years of experience managing annual, capital, and endowment campaigns. During his career, he has led or held key positions on campaigns that have raised over $700 million for leading nonprofits, mostly in the faith-based space including high schools, colleges, dioceses, and parishes.
As CAO, Tom will help to build upon Mount Saint Joseph’s legacy and drive philanthropic engagement that ensures the school’s long-term financial sustainability. As a member of the senior leadership team, he will play a key role in shaping the school’s strategic vision by overseeing fundraising, alumni relations, institutional advancement, and donor engagement.

In this capacity, he largely servedhealthcare institutions and as Interim Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Mount Aloysius College. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from California University of Pennsylvania.
With his compelling record of developing strong relationships with philanthropists,I am confident Tom will make an immediate impact on our advancement efforts. As we approach The Mount’s 150th anniversary, his work and that of the entire Development Office will be especially meaningful.
In coordination with the hiring of Tom, I am pleased to announce several additional changes to the Development Office. On June 16, Joe Schuberth ’00 moved into a new position as Director of Development – Operations. Joe has served nearly 12 years at MSJ, acting as Director of Marketing and Communications for the last 7.5 years. In his new role, he oversees office operations, database management, marketing, communications, grants, foundations, and endowed scholarship distribution, reporting directly to Tom.
As of June 30, Lauren Kirchenheiter has taken over Joe’s former position as Director of Marketing and Communications, after having served as Associate Director of Marketing and Communications for more than 7 years. Justice Gray ’13, formerly Development Content Manager, now has an expanded role as the Marketing and Communications Manager.
Please join me in welcoming Tom to Mount Saint Joseph, and continue to keep the Development Office and the entire school community in your prayers as we prepare for the year ahead.
