Facilities Technician

This is a 12-month, full-time, hourly position.
POSITION SUMMARY:  The Facilities Technician will be responsible for general buildings and grounds maintenance.  This position will cross-train in all aspects of facilities maintenance and the essential day-to-day functions of the Facilities Department.  The Facilities Technician must be flexible, self-motivated, reliable, and willing to attend necessary school events, during and after hours, as directed by the Director of Facilities.   Must be willing to attend trade schools and participate in professional development as recommended. 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 
  1. Performs maintenance and repairs of buildings, facilities, and equipment in a wide variety of trades such as: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, HVAC (if certified)
  2. Repairs, maintains, installs, sets up, and takes down furniture and equipment for campus events, employe office, and classroom moves, etc.
  3. Drive a school-owned vehicle to various on-campus work sites and occasionally offsite, and maintain vehicle, tools, and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in a safe operating condition.
  4. Assure compliance with federal and state building, health, and safety codes and standards.
  5. Reports and responds to employee calls for assistance during work hours; ensures problems are resolved quickly.
  6. Maintains an adequate supply of tools, equipment, and supplies for making repairs.
  7. Ensures safety standards are followed throughout the facility.  Reports all hazards and accidents to the Director of Facilities immediately, or as soon as reasonably practicable.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
 
 
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
 
  1. Must be able to pass a background check.
  2. Possession of a valid Maryland driver's license.
  3. High School diploma
  4. Ability to carry out oral and written instructions in English.
  5. Ability to use simple math to solve problems.
  6. Basic knowledge of technology including sending and receiving email communications.
  7. Ability to work with and be part of a team.
  8. Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 
  1. Standing and moving for prolonged periods of time.
  2. Routinely climbing stairs
  3. Moderate to heavy lifting
  4. Ability to withstand a variety of indoor/outdoor environmental conditions
  5. Driving electric golf carts and busses
  6. Operating a variety of power tools
 
 
This full-time, hourly position offers a generous benefits package that includes medical and dental insurance as well as a retirement matching program (after 1 year of service).  Working hours for this position are 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The hourly wage for this position is $25.00.
