Tryouts - Spring 2026

Important information regarding physicals, sportsmanship meetings, and spring sports tryouts.
*All student athletes currently participating in a winter sport are required to complete their winter season before trying out for a spring sport. Students should notify the spring coach of their intent to try out. *

Physicals
All physicals must be electronically uploaded to Healthy Roster even if one is on file with the school nurse. All students without a HealthyRoster profile must establish one by completing the JotForm located on the school's website under Athletics/Sportsmedicine/Healthy Roster. 
HealthyRoster Requirement Checklist:
  • A physical dated after May 18th, 2025 is required to be uploaded into this profile before they will be allowed to try out for a team.
  • Acknowledgement and Assumption of Risk located under the Documents tab of the athlete’s HealthyRoster profile.
  • Emergency Contact and Travel Permission forms located under the Documents tab of the HealthyRoster profile.

If your insurance only allows a physical every two years, or you are not due for a new physical, we accept Patient First or Minute Clinic physicals. This will satisfy the requirements for participation in athletics.

Spring Sportsmanship Meeting
Meeting date: Tuesday, March 3 (6pm) in the Smith Center
These meetings are mandatory for all students and a parent who have made a spring team, or who are still in the process of trying out for a team (attendance at only 1 per school year is required). Anyone who cannot attend this meeting must notify the Athletic Director prior to the meeting. Mr. Kraig Loovis can be reached at kloovis@msjnet.edu
 
Baseball Tryouts will begin on Tuesday, February 17 all levels – Varsity, JV and FS, 3:00 to 5:30 please meet at the baseball field. All potential student athletes must bring baseball cleats and athletic shoes every day due to the possibility of conducting tryouts on the basketball court or parking lot in case of bad weather. Please dress warmly and wear baseball pants and a baseball hat. All equipment should be dropped off at the swing room before school. Contact person: Coach Phil Kraska pkraska@msjnet.edu

Golf Tryouts will begin on Tuesday, February 17, for JV and Varsity, weather permitting. Meet at 3:00 at Rolling Road Country Club. Limited-capacity bus transportation is provided to Rolling Road for those who require transportation. Please meet the MSJ school bus in the Smith Center Parking Lot no later than 2:40. Tryouts will continue on Wednesday, February 18, and Thursday, February 19, weather permitting. Dress warmly and appropriately for play at a private golf club. You must be picked up at Rolling Road immediately after tryouts at 5:45. Contact person: Coach Ed Schultheis eschultheis@msjnet.edu
Lacrosse: Players must report to our Athletic Training staff on February 11th or 12th from 2:30-3:00 in the lobby of the Smith Center to ensure that all health forms and materials are uploaded. If players have not been checked-in with our athletic trainers on one of these two days, they will not be able to tryout the following week until they have been given the clearance from the Athletic Training Staff.
Lacrosse tryouts will begin on Tuesday, February 17th at both levels – Varsity and JV. All players will report to the turf on February 17th, tryouts will run 3:00 to 5:00. All equipment should be dropped off at the storage room before school. Tryouts will continue through February 19th, with final selections and cuts being announced to the players following the last tryout. Please anticipate the last day of tryouts to run until 5:30/6:00 due to final team selection/cuts.  The first team practices will begin on Friday February 20th, with practice also taking place on Saturday as well.  Rugby Tryouts will begin on Tuesday, February 17 all levels - Varsity and JV on campus, MSJ grass fields from 3:00-5:15. Players must wear cleats and dress warmly for the cold weather. Rugby players should change clothes after school using the team locker rooms but should take all their belongings to the practice field until locks are issued. Tennis Tryouts will begin on Monday, March 2 and run through Friday, March 6 for Varsity and JV weather permitting. Tryouts will be held at Forest Hill Tennis & Swim Club from 3:00-5:00 PM. Limited-capacity bus transportation to Forest Hill will be available for those who require transportation. Track & Field for Varsity and JV will meet Wednesday, February 18th at 3:00 in the stadium bleachers, after the meeting the group will practice on the track. Tryouts continue every day that week from 3:15 to 5:00 on the track. Contact person: Coach Kyle Reagan kreagan@msjnet.edu
