Fall Sports Tryout Information
 
Important information regarding physicals, sportsmanship meetings, and fall sports tryouts.

Physicals
MSJ athletics requires that all physicals be electronically uploaded to HealthyRoster.
 
Anyone trying out for a sport must have a valid physical uploaded to HealthyRoster prior to August 1st.  All students are required to have a physical dated after May 18, 2025 and submitted to HealthyRoster. A physical is valid for one year from the exam date. The form is available on the Mount St. Joseph website under Parents- Health Procedures & Forms and on the Sports Medicine page under Referrals. 
 
New MSJ athletes must first receive an invitation code to HealthyRoster by filling out the jotform on the sports medicine page of the school website or emailing dyoung@msjnet.eduor adefino@msjnet.edu
Please allow 24-48 hrs for a response. 
 
Once you set up the Athlete profile, please fill out all forms found under “Documents."  This will include:
  • Acknowledgement and Assumption Risk: Read completely and parent/athlete both initial/sign in all relevant fields
  • Emergency Contact and Travel Permission: Fill out all fields completely (including insurance info) and sign with your finger or a stylus in the gray box
  • Pre-participation physicals with physician signatures should be filled out by hand on paper form and scanned in using the icon in the top right corner/your phone’s camera
 
Please note that MSJ accepts physicals from Patient First, Minute Clinic, and other walk-in health clinics.

Fall Sportsmanship Meetings
These meetings are mandatory for all student athletes and a parent who have made a fall sports team or are still in the process of trying out for a team. These meetings will be held in the Smith Center.
Monday, August 18, 2025
6:00 pm: soccer, volleyball, cross country
7:00 pm: football, water polo, ice hockey, mountain bike
 
Varsity & JV Cross Country 
Date: tryouts begin for all students at MSJ on Monday, August 11th at 7am. For the remainder of the week practices will be held at Centennial Park West from 6:45-8:15pm.
 Place: Students should meet in the Smith Center lobby prior to practice on Monday, August 11th to verify their physicals are uploaded to Healthy Roster. Instructions will be given on the first day of practice or can be accessed by joining the TeamAPP. 
Once school begins the team normally practices on campus from 2:30-4:30pm. 
What to bring: students should wear appropriate workout clothes, which should include running shoes and a water bottle.

Varsity & JV Volleyball
Date: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday August 11, 12, and 13 for all students.
Time: JV 2:00-5:00pm, and Varsity 2:30-5:30pm 
Place: Practices will be held in The Smith Center & Memorial Gym. Practice schedule for the remainder of August will be handed out at this time.
What to bring: Students should wear proper workout clothes and should also bring a water bottle.

Mountain Bike
Registration open May 1st-July 1st- Please contact Coach Kelley ASAP for an invitation for league registration. 
Registration Deadline: July 1, 2025 (MSJ deadline)
Practices: Summer practices begin after July1st. Fall practice starts Monday August 11th and will occur Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through November 10th
Gear Needed: Proper mountain bike and helmet. Beginners are welcome.

Varsity & JV Football
All interested students should email Coach Davis regarding summer football workouts. Workouts are held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings (5:00-7:30pm) throughout the summer. (June 17, 18, 24, 25, 26, July 1, 2, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24). Please note, no equipment will be issued to any player who has a physical dated prior to May 18, 2025.
Tryout Dates and Times: Monday, August 4 through Friday August 8, arrival time 3pm. Practice will be held on the turf, there will also be meetings, and weight training. Pick-up time is 7pm. 
Monday, August 11 through Friday, August 15 practice on the turf 3:30pm-7:00pm.
Things to bring: Please arrive on time dressed in MSJ colors, bring plenty of fluids, and both cleats and sneakers.

Soccer: Grades 10 – 12
Note: All players will be trying out for one of our three teams- FS/JV/Varsity.
*Tuesday August 12 report to the Smith Center at 10:15am where physicals will be verified. Please make sure you have a current physical uploaded to Healthy Roster. Tuesday's practice will conclude at 12:15
* August 13 through August 16 10:45-12:15 report to Plevyak Field. 
* First Cut August 14 at the conclusion of training. Final Cut August 18 at the conclusion of training.
* All practices from August 18 to the end of the season will be from 2:30–4:15pm.
Things to Bring: Students should wear proper workout clothes, shin guards and cleats. Students should also bring a water bottle.

* August 13 through August 16 from 9:00-10:30am report to Plevyak Field. 
* First Cut August 14 at the conclusion of training. Final Cut August 18 at the conclusion of training. 
* All practices from August 18 to the end of the season will be from 2:30–4:15pm.

Varsity & JV Water Polo
Date: First meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 13 at 3:30pm in the MSJ Smith Center to verify physicals are uploaded to Healthy Roster and hand out additional practice information. The meeting will last about 30 minutes. Tryouts begin for all new and returning players Monday, August 18 at UMBC’s outdoor pool.  All students trying out must be able to complete a swimming set of 8x100 yard freestyle swims and tread with hands out of the water for 3 minutes.  
Time: Practice time is 3:00-5:00pm
Place: Week 1, Mon, August 18 through Fri, August 22 practices will be held at UMBC’s outdoor pool. Week 2, Mon, August 25 through Thurs, August 28 will remain at UMBC. After Labor Day practices begin at CCBC and remain there for the duration of the season.
Things to bring: Wear a competitive swim suit, not swim trunks, and bring a water bottle and a towel.
