Students Shadow at GERSTEL
Earlier this summer, Alex Reinhardt '28, Micah Carl '27, Jaydon Crawford '27, Hayden Vess '27, and Ian Phillips '28 spent the day at GERSTEL - a company that specializes in sample preparation and analysis solutions for laboratories. Students shadowed Megan Harper-Kerr, an applications scientist at GERSTEL, and prepared extraction techniques for GC-MS. "We prepared samples to extract and analyzed the data from the GERSTEL machines," says Ian Phillips '28. "We saw graphs and data that showed peaks and allowed us to examine molecule patterns"
The shadow day at GERSTEL was one of many career exploration days that MSJ students had the opportunity to engage in this summer. "I learned about a chemical engineering processes and found that it might be something that I am more interested in than I thought I was," says Micah Carl '27.
