Brendan Donohue Named New Principal

BALTIMORE, MD – After a nationwide search, Mount Saint Joseph High School has hired Mr. Brendan Donohue as principal. An administrator with more than 30 years of experience teaching in Catholic schools, Donohue joins the Mount community from a fellow Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School: Xavier High School in Middletown, Connecticut.

At Xavier, Donohue teaches history and was academic dean for 6 years prior to serving as the principal for the last 13 years. “My time with the Xaverian Brothers has been critical to my formation as an educator,” Donohue states. “They have taught me that to lead is to serve, that education is about human relationships, and that in harmony small things grow. I am humbled to join the Mount family, a community dedicated to guiding students to become the best possible version of themselves in the tradition of the Xaverian Brothers.”

Donohue’s administrative experience includes serving on committees for strategic planning, technology, mission effectiveness, admissions, and the academic council. During his tenure as principal, he led multiple initiatives including the creation of an Academic Achievement Center, the planning for a STEM and Innovation Lab, the enhancement of the Dual-Enrollment Program with the University of Connecticut, the institution of a one-to-one technology program, the implementation of a learning management system, and the creation of new forms of faculty assessment and professional development.

As a member of the administrative principal search committee, Assistant Principal Greg McDivitt recognized that Donohue stood out as the top candidate. “As we approach the 150th anniversary of its founding, our school is poised at a critical moment in its history, and Brendan Donohue is the right person for right now at Mount Saint Joseph,” says McDivitt. “He understands our holistic mission to educate young men in the Xaverian tradition, and he is ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work.”

The President of Mount Saint Joseph, George Andrews, was happy to accept the recommendation of the administrative principal search committee. “Mr. Donohue is a thoughtful, organized man of faith who brings a wealth of experience as a teacher and administrator,” states Andrews. “I am confident that Mr. Donohue will continue to bring The Mount to new heights.”

In addition to his experience, Donohue holds a master's degree in secondary school administration from Boston College and a master’s degree in history from Duquesne University. Donohue and his wife, Maura, have four adult children, and he will officially start as the principal of Mount Saint Joseph on July 1, 2023.
