Mount Saint Joseph High School Names New Principal

Mount Saint Joseph High School welcomes Francisco Espinosa Jr. as the school’s new principal, effective July 1, 2020. As a current member of The Mount’s Board of Directors, Espinosa is not only familiar with the school’s mission but is also dedicated to its success. He brings with him extensive leadership experience as an educator and administrator. For the past eight years, Espinosa has served as principal and senior vice president at Saint Xavier High School, a Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School for young men in Louisville, Kentucky.

Espinosa holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Louisville, as well as a Master of Education in secondary education and administration and a second Master of Education in school leadership, both from Spalding University. He has served at Saint Xavier High School for 20 years in a variety of positions, including varsity football coach, history teacher, assistant principal for student life, and assistant principal for supervision of instruction, before taking on his current role.

“Over the course of my 18-year journey as an educational leader, I have been fortunate to work with and for some excellent leaders who mentored me and helped develop the emerging leadership talents in me,” Espinosa says. “Currently, as an educational leader, I am motivated by high expectations and driven to offer the best and most relevant programs for our students; their development, learning, and success are incredibly important, and we have a tremendous obligation to deliver on our commitment.”

In addition to his responsibilities at Saint Xavier, Espinosa is also completing his sixth year as a member of Mount Saint Joseph’s Board of Directors and looks forward to serving the school in this new capacity as an administrator.

“I am excited to be part of a community whose mission is focused on the development of the whole student,” Espinosa says. “It is a school that lives the Xaverian mission through its excellent educational programs, spiritual formation, and its social and emotional development of teenagers. In my time as a board member, I have always been impressed with the students and their willingness to speak fervently about their high school experience at The Mount.”

“As a board member, Frank Espinosa has a real genuine sense of The Mount’s mission and history, and he will certainly connect with the community on a personal level,” adds Mount Saint Joseph President George Andrews. “We are blessed that he brings a wealth of leadership experience to the school; but first and foremost, he is a Xaverian.”

Members of the selection committee consisted of faculty and staff from all areas of campus, including administration, academic departments, counseling, athletics, advancement, and the DePaul Program for students with learning differences. After a nationwide search and an extensive screening and interview process, they are confident that Espinosa is the ideal candidate.

“Frank Espinosa is the principal that Mount Saint Joseph needs right now,” says Rachel Bruce, Principal Search Committee Chairperson. “As a longtime Xaverian educator, Mr. Espinosa will promote and strengthen our mission as a Catholic, Xaverian school. He is committed to bringing out the best in our students, staff, and faculty. He has said, ‘My ministry is in the hallway.’ Our students will be blessed to have him as their principal."
