Social Studies Camps

Social Studies Camps

All middle and high school students are invited to participate in these camps. The price is $150 for one camp or $225 for both.

National History Day Camp - June 24-28, 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
This seminar will allow students of all experience levels to get a jump start on their NHD projects for the fall. The program will start with an examination of the yearly NHD theme and the possibilities that it presents for project topics.

Day 1 - Intro to NHD, analysis of yearly theme, and looking at topic options
Day 2 - Selecting a topic within the theme and developing a preliminary thesis
Day 3 - Intro to research resources
Day 4 - Researching sources and how to do an annotated bibliography
Day 5 - Selecting a project format and next steps

Model United Nations Camp - July 8-12, 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
The MUN seminar will cover research, writing, parliamentary procedure, interpersonal communication skills, and public speaking. Students will take part in at least two Model UN conference simulations. The seminar will be tailored to accommodate all experience levels.

Day 1 - Intro to Model UN and research resources
Day 2 - Simulation topic 1 research and prep, and writing a position paper
Day 3 - Parliamentary procedure and Simulation 1
Day 4 - Simulation topic 2 research and prep, and resolution writing
Day 5 - Simulation 2 and wrap-up
