  • Master’s Degree required, preferably in educational administration or curriculum and instruction, and significant high school teaching and administrative experience
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, lead, supervise, evaluate, and work collegially with faculty and staff by fostering a culture of collaboration, professional development, and teamwork
  • Strong background in developing and implementing a rigorous, college-prep curriculum
  • Demonstrated success as an instructional leader who creates a culture of continuous improvement through ongoing constructive feedback to teachers and counselors
  • Ability to analyze and utilize data to increase student achievement
  • Ability to set and attain goals and articulate a vision for a high-performing high school
  • Sensitivity to and appreciation for diversity and inclusivity, including but not limited to academic ability, race, sexual identity, learning style, and income level
  • Exceptional organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, including proficiency with social media and educational technology
  • Experience managing a school budget
  • Five years of successful experience in academic leadership, preferably at the secondary school or higher education level
  • Willingness to embrace the values of the Xaverian charism and The Mount’s mission
  • Proven ability to engage with all stakeholders, including but not limited to faculty/staff, students, parents, prospective students, community partnerships, and board members
  • Outstanding leadership, management, collaboration, and multi-tasking skills
  • Commitment to 21st-century learning and awareness of current trends affecting education
Appointed by the president with the following responsibilities:

I) General

The principal oversees the total educational program of the school and is accountable to the president. In the absence of the president, he/she is the school’s spokesperson, and all those who report to the president report to the principal.

II) Spiritual
  • Assures that annual programs for faculty and staff that deal with the Catholic/Xaverian nature of the school are planned, implemented, and evaluated in consultation with the president
  • Assures that programs are created and executed for the personal and religious development of students
  • Provides teachers with a clear vision and understanding of the religious dimension of the school
  • Serves as a role model for Catholic/Xaverian spirituality
III) Administrative
  • In consultation with the president, collaborates with the assistant principals, assists in their professional growth, evaluates them, and involves them in decisions affecting school policy and operations
  • Appoints academic chairpersons and provides for their professional development
  • With assistant principals and chairpersons, reviews teacher performance and the effectiveness of each department’s curriculum
  • With the CFO and department chairpersons, ascertains departmental needs in establishing budgets
  • Assures that the needed support system for teachers is maintained
  • Communicates effectively with faculty/staff about the academic state and future of the school while also communicating with parents, addressing student successes and concerns
  • With the director of staff formation, oversees a just process of teacher supervision and evaluation of performance and reports results to each teacher
  • Hires new teachers, assigns duties and makes decisions regarding renewal of contracts
  • With the director of admissions, sets policies and procedures on admission and admits candidates
  • Maintains and enforces policies for suspension, retention, promotion, graduation, and dismissal of students
  • Establishes a periodic review of school regulations and sees that these are enforced
  • Oversees curriculum development, scheduling of courses, placement of students and continuous evaluative appraisal of student ability and achievement
  • Is ultimately responsible for overseeing that instruction is consistent with the philosophy of the school and the goals and objectives of each department
  • In concert with assistant principals, sets and publishes the annual calendar
  • Communicates with parents, addressing student successes and concerns
