Brother James M. Kelly, C.F.X., President and Chief Executive Officer
A native of Worcester, Massachusetts, Brother James has been a Xaverian Brother for forty-four years. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Latin and Greek from The Catholic University of America (Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude), a Master's degree in Liberal Studies from Wesleyan University and a Master's in counseling from Saint Joseph College. He began his teaching career at Saint John's High School in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, and served for seventeen years at Xavier High School in Middletown, Connecticut. From 1982 until 1991 he was the principal of Xavier High School. After a brief assignment as Director of Development for the Xaverian Brothers, he became the President of Saint Xavier High School, in Louisville, Kentucky, in June of 1993 and served in that position until he came to Mount Saint Joseph in July of 2001. Brother James is a member of the General Council of the Xaverian Brothers whose world-wide headquarters (The Xaverian Brothers Generalate) is on the grounds of Mount Saint Joseph.
Barry J. Fitzpatrick, Principal
Mr. Fitz, as he's affectionately known by his students, joined the Mount in 1986 as a guidance counselor. Eight years later, in 1994, he was named principal. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. He also has a Master's degree in counseling from Loyola and a Master's in education from Harvard University. A native of Brooklyn, New York, he graduated from Xaverian High School in Brooklyn and has since devoted his life to Xaverian education. He's an avid sports fan and a voracious reader. But his true love will always be his students.
David Norton, Assistant Vice Principal, Director of Studies
Mr. Norton graduated from Mount Saint Joseph in 1971 and soon returned to his alma mater to teach. Now over thirty years later, he is an assistant vice principal and the director of studies. He is also the varsity baseball coach. Mr. Norton earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master's in education from Towson University. It was his passion for the Mount and his strong belief in the educational and spiritual environment that the Mount offers that brought him back to his alma mater and both are what keep him here today. He and his wife have two children and live in Pasadena.
Mr. Robert Peace Assistant Vice Principal, Director of Staff Formation
Mr. Peace grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina and earned a B.A. in Religion from the College of William and Mary. He also has a Masters' Degree in Theology from the University of Notre Dame and is completing a Masters' Degree in Education from Loyola University. This is Mr. Peace's 9th year at the Mount, where he taught religion and worked in campus ministry before moving into administration. He has found that the Xaverian values that are such an essential part of the fabric of the school provide a powerful guide to strengthening relationships with students, faculty, family, and God. Mr. Peace lives in Baltimore with his wife and children.
Brian Murphy, Assistant Vice Principal, Director of Students
Mr. Murphy is a native of Western Pennsylvania and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame, where he was a Scholar-Athlete and Monogram Club Member for Wrestling. He also has a Master's in Leadership in Teaching from the College of Notre Dame with a certification in administration. Mr. Murphy is in his fourteenth year at the Mount and is thrilled to work in a school that values enduring personal relationships. A former MSJ Wrestling Coach and Maryland State Wrestling Association Coach of the Year, he currently officiates wrestling at both the collegiate and high school levels. Mr. Murphy enjoys hunting, fishing, skiing, tennis, golf and time with family and friends. He lives in Baltimore, but Mr. Murphy will forever remain a Steelers fan.
